How to Verify Your Payment Method (Send a Valid Statement)

Exactly what payment-verification document to send — by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Venmo/Cash App, and prepaid — plus fixes for upload and file-format problems.

When you go to redeem, we sometimes need to confirm that the payment method on your account belongs to you — a quick, one-time check that's separate from ID verification. This guide shows exactly what to send and how to get it accepted the first time. For the difference between ID and payment verification, see Verifying Your Account: ID vs. Payment Verification.

What a valid statement looks like

We need an official statement for the payment method you used, as a PDF downloaded directly from your bank or financial institution. It must show your name, your address, and tie clearly to the payment method on your account. Additionally, ensure that the document is from the last 90 days to meet recency requirements.

Send it exactly as issued. Don't edit, crop, retype, black out, or screenshot it — we need the original document as your bank provides it. It does not need to show your full card number, but please don't alter it to remove anything. A direct-deposit form is not a substitute for a statement.

By payment method

Visa, Mastercard, or Discover: the official statement PDF from the bank that issued the card, showing your name and the card.

Apple Pay: the statement from the bank card linked to your Apple Pay — the raw PDF from your banking app's statements section. If you paid from an Apple Cash balance, request an Apple Cash statement from your iPhone's Wallet settings and upload it as provided. To generate a PDF statement directly from your iPhone:

  • Open Settings.

  • Tap Wallet & Apple Pay.

  • Select your Apple Cash card.

  • Go to the Transactions tab.

  • Tap Request Transaction Statement.

  • Tap Send to receive the PDF via your Apple ID email.

Google Pay: the statement from the bank card linked to Google Pay.

Venmo or Cash App: download the official account statement PDF from inside the app — a statement, not a screenshot of your activity feed.

Prepaid or virtual cards: Verifying these cards can be challenging if they cannot produce an official statement in your name. For example:

  • Apple Pay Virtual Cards: Generate a PDF statement as described above and submit it along with any supporting screenshots of the card in your Apple Pay wallet. If you're unable to provide the required documentation, contact us for assistance in finding a solution.

Upload not working?

  • "File won't upload" or "file too large": make sure it's a PDF (not a photo or screenshot), and try a smaller file or a different browser.

  • You can only get a screenshot: download the official PDF from the statements section of your bank or app instead — screenshots aren't accepted.
