Why Can I Only Use Crypto? (Card Payments Unavailable)

What it means when only crypto is offered at checkout, and how to keep playing.

Trying to make a purchase and only seeing crypto as an option? Here's what that means and how to keep playing without missing a beat.

What's happening

Card (fiat) purchases — Apple Pay, Google Pay, Visa, Mastercard, and Discover — are set on a per-account basis, and that availability can change over time. When card purchases aren't available on your account, you'll see only crypto offered at checkout, sometimes with a message like "payments unavailable."

This is different from a card being declined. A decline usually points to something on the card itself — bank authorization, insufficient funds, a name mismatch, or an unsupported card type. If your card is being declined rather than hidden, see My Payment Was Declined or Rejected.

Why card payments may be unavailable

Card availability is managed per account for security and compliance reasons, and it can be adjusted as part of routine account review. We're not able to share the specific details behind an individual account's status.

Card access is not restored automatically — it stays unavailable until a member of our team reviews the account and re-enables it. If you'd like us to take a look, write in to support from the email tied to your account (and include your username), and our team will review it for you.

You can still play with crypto

While card purchases are unavailable, crypto purchases remain available on your account. We support Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), USDC, and USDT, and most crypto purchases settle in about a minute. Your Gold Coins (GC) — and any Sweeps Coins (SC) bonus — are delivered automatically once the payment confirms, exactly the same as a card purchase. For a step-by-step walkthrough, see Crypto Purchases.

Your balances and redemptions are not affected

Having card purchases unavailable does not affect your existing GC or SC balances, and it does not change your eligibility to redeem. You keep full access to the platform and to redemptions.

A quick note on crypto redemptions

Crypto redemptions are paid out as USDC on the Solana network, regardless of which asset you originally purchased with. Solana USDC payouts typically process within minutes once approved. For the full list of payout options, see Supported Payment Methods.
